OVERVIEW
You will conduct a 45–60-minute interview of a married grandparent, great aunt/uncle, or
the eldest living relative in your family who was also a parent. The interview will
incorporate questions relating to their life including, but not limited to, their experience
and philosophy of marriage, parenting, faith, and the values system they worked to instill
in the family lineage.
INSTRUCTIONS
Questions that can be asked include any of the following:
Demographics

 How did you meet your spouse?
 How many children did you have? Did you plan on that many?
Challenges, Obstacles and Struggles
 Were there any complications in having children or raising your children?
 What were the biggest obstacles and struggles in raising your children?
 How did you overcome those struggles?
 What role did your marriage have in how you raised your children?
 Describe the quality of your marriage, especially while raising your children.
Faith and Family Values
 What role did faith play in your marriage? In raising your kids? In your everyday
lives as a family?
 What were the top 3 values you lived by as a family?
 What advice would you give parents today in raising their children?
 What advice would you give young newlyweds today as it relates to their
marriage?
